Dear Community Members,

We want to keep you informed about some activity at our site.  As part of required maintenance work, you may have noticed an increase in flaring and associated noise.  This started on Sunday evening and will continue over the next few days.  This is caused by safely shutting down one of our units.

What is flaring and why does it happen?
Flaring is a safety and environmental protection measure. It allows us to burn off excess gases in a controlled way, rather than releasing them directly into the atmosphere. This process helps reduce emissions and maintain safe operations.

Each flare has a small flame (called a pilot light) that stays lit at all times, ready to safely burn off gases when needed. During this period, you may see larger flames and hear some noise, which is a normal part of the process.

What about the noise?
Sometimes, steam is used to help burn the gases more efficiently, which can create a rumbling sound. To reduce nighttime disturbance, we’ll be limiting the use of steam during the evenings.

We understand that this may cause some inconvenience and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we carry out this essential work. Safety and environmental care remain our top priorities.

Next steps

We expect the flaring and associate noise to decrease as the week progresses.  We’ll issue another update if this changes.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions or concerns about this current activity.  You can email us at [email protected]

Kind regards,

Essar Energy Transition Team
